Vote Anika Bowie For City Council Ward 1

The Community Candidate

Hello Neighbor,

My name is Anika Bowie and I’m a life-long Saint Paul resident, a big sister, a proud Aunt, a serial entrepreneur, a creative in the field of arts for social change, a community organizer, a policy strategist, with a passion for improving people’s lives through civic engagement and public servant leadership. I’ve worked on grassroots campaigns for 12 years and talked with thousands of voters to help elect progressive candidates across the country. I ran in 2019 and grew a movement of new voters, youth, justice activists, and everyday people. I’m running to listen to the community and be a voice for the community because I’m running to win with the community.

I am proud a graduate from Saint Paul Central High and Hamline University. Growing up in a community of family businesses taught me strong values in customer service, helping people in need, and keeping your door open to everyone. Saint Paul has been home to my family for nearly 100 years and since then our residents withstand inequities in housing, the destruction of our Rondo business and neighborhood corridor, economic devastation, mass incarceration, mental health crisis, and gentrification.

Ward 1 is more than a district, it’s a family (North End, Mount Airy, Frogtown, Summit-Universtiy, Capitol Hill, Midway, and Union Park). As a millennial, I’m excited to bring my level of energy and enthusiasm to the table to tackle complex problems through an equity lens and compassion for everyone no matter their race, gender, sex, religion, socio-economic or ability. Like our neighbors, I have faced adversity and survived trauma in my life, I know what it feels like personally to lose a loved one, be a homeless youth, navigate the justice system, and overcome institutional racism and sexism. The challenges I faced in my earlier years as an adult shaped me to be an even better leader who solves problems in the community. I’m running to bring the stories, concerns, and solutions of the people of Ward 1 to City Hall.

I need your help serving the city council election on November 7th. Vote for me as your first choice!

Sincerely,

Anika Bowie
